The Sad State of TV.
March 17th, 2007 JohnPrison Break wasn’t on this week, which left me paying extra close attention to 24. I don’t know what it is about 24 but I can’t seem to get quite as sucked in to it as I do with Prison Break (or 30 Rock!). Granted, it’s super intense, and Jack Bauer is way hardcore, but I feel like something is missing.
It may be because Michael Scolefield (the main guy in Prison Break) looks alarmingly like me according to Kelly. This leads me to thinking that I am indeed breaking into prison to break my brother out (what did you do Henry?). And also that I am just about the most clever person ever. I mean seriously, how clever is Michael Scolefield? He tattooed the prison blueprints on himself!!! And not only that but he tattooed a bunch of other stuff on him so he could like remember where he buried clothes or what size allen key he needed to disassemble the bleachers. (By the way, how many episodes has it been since the tattoos have even been shown this season? Come on, we need more of Michael figuring something out because he tattooed it!). Also, he looks at things and like immediately has some really smart plan to do something awesome. Does anybody else realize how clever this guy is? These are qualities I feel like are integral to be a hero.
Jack Bauer manages to get out of every single situation, but I feel like he relies way too much on his cell phone, and the whole thing ends up feeling like some weird thing where he is a robot that is controlled by CTU. Seriously, every time something happens he calls Bill at CTU and tells him about it and Bill tells him something and Jack does something. Granted, a show about a robot saving the USA sounds awesome, (and I will stress again that 24 is awesome), but for some reason it just doesn’t live up to Prison Break.
It makes me sad though that Prison Break is called Prison Break, because I don’t see how they could possibly continue it another season after this one… could they? If my worst fears come to pass and Prison Break gets cancelled that could be really bad news. Here is the sad state of my tv watching this year/predictions for next year:
1. THE OC GOT CANCELLED! One of my all time favorite shows, which alone would be enough for me to mourn but did anybody else notice the show was actually getting better? Season one was a television classic, season two almost matched season one, and then BOOM season three happened. It was bad news. Season 3 was pretty pointless and bad. I feel like the whole season existed to kill off Marissa, seriously can you remember anything else that happened all season? (Other than we got introduced to Taylor) Then season 4 comes along and the OC was right back on track. Taylor proved to be way way better than Marissa and I feel like I developed a legitimate crush on her. (Don’t you hate it when that happens with fictional characters?) We were well on our way to forgetting season 3 ever happened when the bad news came down from the top. The OC was cancelled. The only thing I can say is that I am glad it happened midseason so they could put together that finale episode which simultaneously made me super depressed yet so happy. It was so good!
2. Scrubs may get cancelled! Again, the first three seasons were the best, but this show has stayed fantastic. Totally irreverent and hilarious. I keep hearing things about its possible cancellation due to low ratings and stuff. Its too good, do not cancel it! Also what would happen to the hospital where everything gets shot? Any other show that used it would feel too much like Scrubs. (They use a real former hospital to shoot most every indoor scene). I guess they could turn it back into a real hospital, but I don’t think the amount of lives saved there would justify the death of Scrubs.
3. My new favorite show 30 Rock also might get cancelled! This show I think gets my most laughs. Tracy Jordan actually comes off as crazy, and did anybody ever imagine Alec Baldwin could be so funny? I never want to see him in another role, ever. Tina Fey is gorgeous and hilarious. Do not cancel this show!
4. Afore mentioned possibility of Prison Break getting cancelled.
If all of these things come to pass I will have ZERO episodic shows to watch. Yes, Sportscenter and Around the Horn will always be there, but this would be such a travesty. I don’t even watch that much TV but I look forward to these shows every week. A cancellation of one or all of them could cause me to spend countless hours on pointless things, which I guess is a little like TV anyway.
I am excited for It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia to come back. If you haven’t watched this show, watch it, you will like it. I would be willing to guarantee you like it if you give it a legitimate chance and aren’t just trying to prove me wrong.
I will now go read a book.
